Posted by Mitch45 on Thu Dec 30 17:27:35 2010 For me, it was 125 miles per hour in my friend's 1987 Toyota Supra in January of 1991 on Ocean Parkway in Jones Beach. It was a clear, dry but bitterly cold day and my friend wanted to open it up and see what the car could do. We went to Ocean Parkway and once we got past the campanile water tower, he floored it. The roadway there is laser-straight and there was zero traffic there. We hit 125 miles per hour and he kept it there for about 20 seconds when he noticed the temperature gauge heading upward despite the frigid air blasting into the radiator. He toned it down, turned around and we headed back to Queens. FYI, we were not liquored up at all, we wore our seatbelts and he was 100% focused on the road ahead.He had two radar detectors going, just to be sure. I'd NEVER pull this stunt today. I was a kid then, with no children and no responsibilities. |
