I use that exit from the Grand Central to the JR Parkway many times a month, but I usually drive in the left lane my whole trip anyway. I find the left lane to be the safest lane. The right lane is unsafe as you constantly have people merging in and out infront of you and you are constantly having to brake for merging, etc. The Middle lane is safer than the right lane, but you also have people going in and out a lot from either side of you. The left lane is the safest in my opinion, as there are very few left exits in the area (at least compared to the majority being right exits), and you don't have the constant pulling in and out and merging around you there. The right lane is the least safe.
