Last week I drove out to Montauk, and I noticed there is absolutely no reason why the LIE cannot have a 65 mph speed limit. At the very least, in Suffolk County. The road is straight as an arrow, the lanes are wide, and the exits are spaced apart at reasonable distances. Ironically, in New Jersey I sometimes feel that the speed limit is too high (65) on I-287 through Edison and Piscataway, where it is very congested and not as "safe feeling" as the current LIE. |
