My desired numbers on highways in general are 60 and 45 (speed limit and minimum speed). As it is now, I always drive the speed limit, but almost always use the right lane unless passing an even slower car. I don't want too high a speed limit, first because it wastes gas (60 MPH is where, for most cars, you start to spend more gas than necessary to cover the same distance, even without stopping -- and I sure see that when looking at my RPM meter), but also because then if someone thinks conditions dangerous (such as the very beginning of rain, a danger that most drivers underestimate) enough to slow to the 40s they should not be sticking out that badly, if they have to stick out at all. |
