I remember in the news some time ago, about a small child who had fallen between the cars because the car door opened suddenly while rounding a curve. There is a danger when one is between the cars.Actually, in that case, didn't the storm door fly open, and the child get launched outside to his death? I don't believe the child was outside of the car at the start of the curve. This is one reason why I believe all cars should have their storm doors normally locked (and retrofitted with emergency door openers a la the Boston T) once the R32-42 cars are retired. |

That's not what makes Islam great. You don't need Islam to not drink alcohol. I don't drink alcohol either, and I'm not a Muslim. I don't drink it not because of a moral prohibition. I don't because I never got a liking for the taste and I don't enjoy it - so I don't.What makes Islam hang together, like Judaism, or Christianity, is a set of understadable tenets that you can follow and practice and be at one with your God (Allah in this belief system) and so on. The alcohol ban is a detail, but it's only one detail, not even the major one. I'm not knocking it, mind you. The major tenets of Islam include the prayer requirement, the Hajj and charity. |

All employees in safety sensitive titles (which is more or less EVERY title) are subjected to random testing. Now, to volley this back to you, are NYPD officers subject ot random drug & alcohol testing? Just curious. |

In Baltimore, end doors have been locked since the line opened in 1983.One (old) oddity was the key used to unlock the doors was the same as a PRR coach key (which I happened to have) and yes I did use it every once in a while, never in rush hours. When the cars underwent their GOH recently, the locks were changed. RATS!! |

There's a handle and the doors swing in, not slide. To pass between cars requires that the door be unlocked, then you can open it and step across the gap(closing the door as you do), then use the outer handle to open the next car's door (key not needed for this). Not recommended for the average passenger. That's why end doors always have been locked. |

"On the LIRR, people are instructed to move forward to get off at Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, and St Albans."I always find this puzzling. The LIRR rule is clear-- no moving between cars while the train is moving. The conductors should not be advising passengers to violate this rule on a regular basis. That undermines the logic and authority of the rule. The announcement should be, "Please move forward while we are at the next stop," or before the train leaves, "Move forward now; you can't change cars while the train is moving." |

The LIRR rule is clear-- no moving between cars while the train is moving. The conductors should not be advising passengers to violate this rule on a regular basis. That undermines the logic and authority of the rule. It's functionally the same as the NYCT rule. If directed to do so by train crew, in either case, one is permitted to pass between cars, according to the rule. The train crews are, therefore, in full compliance with the rule. |

As a matter of fact....I am suprised no one goes to the Flushing Main Street station. On a good day, they could write a ton of tickets for the amount of people that walk in between the cars. Just my own personal observation. The same can be said for most terminals. Rather than walk along the platform to find a car, most people tend to enter the car nearest to them (so they won't risk missing the train), and then walk through the cars. I have seen undercover cops at Flushing - Main Street pulling EVERYONE off who was walking between the cars. Soon, other people saw this and got the message. |

You, you seem to be incorrect. The law does NOTHING to prevent those 12-9's from happening (the people who goof off between cars and fall). As such, you are wrong - the law is not because of too many 12-9's, but is instead because of too many lawsuits and/or potential for too many lawsuits, and thus they want to reduce their liability.
