One who thinks that Ikea is the model of "responsible" Scandanavian behavior should really read up on how it's founder has avoided paying taxes by setting up a fake charity to act as a parent company for most IKEA stores. Wal Mart, OTOH is consistently one of the most charitable big companies in America, donating nearly a quarter of a billion dollars to various charities in 2007 alone. |

In order to have a case heard in federal court, basically either it needs to be a diversity of citizenship case (which isn't going to happen when people in LIC are suing LIRR) or a federal question case. On the latter, is there a federal statute is at issue? Is there a federal constitutional claim? Essentially then, we are talking about any potential lawsuit being adjudicated in New York Supreme Court, Queens County likely at the Court Sq courthouse not far away, possibly at Jamaica but less likely. But it's not legal strategy that will help the whiners - it's political strategy. |

But he refuses to prosecute torturers and murderers who are sufficiently politically connected, he wanted FOIA amended so that he could suppress photos he believed were personally inconvenient, and he's been more than willing to go along with the corporate and financial interests who got us into this economic mess when they oppose common-sense regulation that worked for decades until it was dismantled under Reagan and Bush or demand another bailout with no strings attached. |
