Syrian and Jordanian policies have no significance to Israel's choice of policies re: immigration and Palestinian relations.They most certainly do, if there wasn't a concerted effort to perpetuate the Palestinian refugee problem for generations without end, the need for a "Palestinian Right of Return" would not be a artificial sticking point in negotiations. Also, the Palestinians lost the wars, they don't just get to come back to Haifa, Jaffa, and Katamon now because they are upset they didn't win. Life has risks, they gambled and lost. |

It's hard to keep track of all the imaginary debate rules you made up. You aren't allowed to point out falsehoods and state them as fact. Israel isn't an apartheid state. End of discussion. I'm pretty sure I was being critical of the fact that they annexed part of the West Bank and divided communities when they built it, which, last time I checked, are some aspects of how the project was undertaken. Israel has not annexed any part of the West Bank aside from East Jerusalem. It did divide communities and I (and many others) are critical of that, while not being critical of the fact that Israel built a fence to prevent Palestinian terrorists from entering Israel to detonate bombs on board buses and in cafes. THAT is what the fence was built for and those sorts of attacks now virtually never occur since the fence's construction. Ah. Israel's occupation is legitimate because Palestine is not a country and has no government of its own, but it doesn't need to provide services and citizenship because Palestine is its own country and Hamas is its legitimate government. Is Puerto Rico an independent country? What about Guam? The PA has jurisdiction over parts of the West Bank, and in theory, is supposed to have jurisdiction over Gaza, except they got run out of town by Hamas. The Palestinians can have a governmental organization that is tasked with carrying out the functions that a national government would carry out without being an independent state. I understand what's going on better than you do, since you seem to be insisting that Israel is the purist of nations that just wants to be left alone and is being attacked by mean bully Palestine for absolutely no reason. Israel has been wanting to be left alone since the UN passed resolution 181 on November 29, 1947. And you might want to take a look at the number of forces on each side in the 1947 and 1967 wars. Israel was not a "big bully." Israelis for not entering serious peace negotiations in years. Where were you in 2009, or is that also ancient history as far as you are concerned? Netanyahu froze building in the West Bank (but not East Jerusalemm) for 10 months, under pressure from Obama to get Abbas back to the negotiating table. Abbas then dragged his feet for 9 months and by the time he came to the table, nothing got done, because the freeze didn't include East Jerusalem, which both sides acknowledge behind closed doors will NOT be the capital of a future Palestinian state. Negotiations require sacrifice on both sides. It was a big deal for Netanyahu to freeze settlement expansion. He took a big political risk in doing so. Abbas has to decide, does he want a complete freeze (which is so unpalatable politically to his Israeli counterpart it can never happen) or does he want a Palestinian state? Same goes for this past round of talks, where Abbas wanted a whole ton of concessions from Israel just to start talking, and wouldn't talk unless he got them all. Obama also set the bar ridiculously high for Abbas, because it would look bad for Abbas if Obama was "more Palestinian" than the Palestinian president himself, and that made quite a mess of things. When all is said and done, Obama and Kerry are going to go down as having been a significant hindrance to the peace process because like you, they don't understand all the intricacies to the situation and don't know how to interact with the players themselves. |

There is plenty of DNA proof that suggests that many Jews have a common ancestor. Whether that person is in fact Jewish or not is unknown, but the fact that so many years later, the claim of a single ancestor for all the Kohanim (I am one myself) holds merit and gives a great deal of credence to the notion of Jews having a small set of common ancestors. Sure, Jews have had "a presence" in Israel; they've had a presence nearly everywhere for hundreds of years. Why, then, should that territory be declared the Homeland that all Jews have a right to? Your lack of knowledge of history is appalling. The Jews wouldn't be "nearly everywhere" if they weren't expelled and dispersed by the Babylonians thousands of years ago and then again by the Romans. Now the Palestinians and people such as yourself are trying to push out the Jews. New age, different story... |

Right, an Israeli ambassador to the US is totally the most unbiased person who could possibly comment on the matter.Although actually, despite his efforts, a little bit of honesty starts creeping in around the edges of his article. He claims that using the word "apartheid" is part of a massive conspiracy to destroy Israel through use of language, which is thoroughly bullshit. But then, he admits to segregation and then tries to handwave it by saying "terrorism" as if this somehow made it not exist. He claims it's the Palestinians' choice to be segregated which sounds quite a bit like victim blaming. He tries to claim that segregation is minimised by saying Palestinians can study at an Israeli university in "a settlement," somehow managing to gloss over the fact that he is talking about an illegal Israeli encroachment onto Palestinian territory which, while not only a bad thing by itself, doesn't help all that much with the claim that Israel doesn't have apartheid— "you're not allowed to leave the dedicated Palestinian Land, but we'll let you study at the university we built on the part of that land we took over." Then he declares that Palestinians are not subject to the jurisdiction of Israeli courts— except when Israel decides to lock up Palestinians for violating laws that Israel passed but which Israelis don't have to obey, in which case said Palestinians don't get a trial at all except for a kangaroo court that Israelis are not subject to. You know for someone complaining that it's unfair to call Israeli policy "apartheid," he all but admits that it is. I think I'm going to have to take the word of a Jewish American who wrote a thesis on the subject, who advised me of several important points: (1) Israel continually pleads for peace while annexing Palestinian lands and encroaching on their territory bit by bit. (I believe the exact phrase was "Israel and Palestine sit down to discuss how to divide the pie while Israel is currently eating the pie.") (2) The wall in the West Bank sliced up communities, creating tremendous hardship for a lot of people, while also effectively annexing part of the West Bank for Israel. (3) Between the wall, blockades, occupation, and travel restrictions, Israel practices a form of apartheid— although the Palestinian territories are under various degrees of Israeli control, their inhabitants are not considered full Israeli citizens. and most importantly: (4) Trying to have a reasonable debate with an Israeli nutter is a futile endeavour. I have been heeding this advice over the last few days. |

On the other hand, we have some guy on the internet who can barely formulate a coherent point. Yeah, I clearly don't have any reason to take the former over the latter. |
