Air surveys were expensive and difficult, so it's understandable that not all that many were ever done. It's a lot easier with satellites, and was almost as easy with spy planes back in Olog's time. I would imagine none exist. |

The city did do something similar by routing the Fulton St line slightly north under Truxton park to build ENY station. The question is whether or not Truxton Park was city property at the time or was it private property that was condemned for the purpose of constructing the subway with the collateral effect of creating a small triangular park. It could also be possible that the land where Pitkin was through routed might have been in foreclosure at the time since it was at the end of the depression and there may have been no owners in a position to really object to such construction. There also might have been a swap between parcels of land to create the new avenue. |

As I have mentioned in several posts, the first I heard of the possibility of the Pitkin subway going farther was in 1959 when the late ERA VP George Horn showed me 2 humps of earth in the median of Conduit Av that were supposed to be the ends of the tunnels for A7 and A8. In 1962, an IND C/R mentioned to me that he had been in there on a drill move from Euclid although there os some speculation that it might have been from Pitkin Yd. What is known is that at one time A7 and A8 yd leads were connected to K5 and K6 leads and were long enough that moves from Pitkin Yd were made into those tracks before the switches were removed which was sometime before 1962. It could be possible that before K5 and K6 leads were extended towards the present Grant Av station that they were not long enough for any moves to be made and that when they were completed, A7 and A8 were no longer needed and thus were disconnected, the rails removed and the remainder of the tunnels sealed off. |

There is no station shell, but there is open space above the Fulton ROW for the Bedford Av subway a bit west of Nostrand station and that's why the mezzanine from the express platforms was built the way it was, to provide for a transfer to the Bedford Av subway. What is surprising abut that is that while there are complete shells above the A Line and G Line for the So 4 and Utica subways, 2 Av/Houston only has an open space above the existing station for the SAS rather than a full shell which one would think would have been built like the other two. |

Unfortunately, the model board is not geographically accurate but the wall is a bit east (to the right) of Interlocking approach signal 124 on the N/B A2 lcl track. The signal is there but its lenses are broken and it is dark and its associated button on the Euclid model board has been removed although the 1948 photo of the Euclid model board shows all the signal buttons in place. |

It might have been just looking for either "Queens historical maps" or "Pitkin Ave Ozone Park, Queens NY." I looked under so many different descriptions, I can't remember which one got me to the site but the Wikipedia one was pretty much taken from one of the other sites. |

True, but in the case of 6 Av in Manhattan the thoroughfare between W 3 St and Canal did not exist at all prior to subway construction so it was completely new construction, not restoration work per se. The same would have been true of the new section creating the straight route between Ruby St and 78 St. |

All Transit museum tours of abandoned facilities except for City Hall were also canceled post 9-11. For that matter they will not confirm or deny the rumors and we all know what governments mean when they do not address an issue. AFAIAC that in itself is an admission that something exists.I disagree. The reason that governments neither confirm nor deny is if they denied things that didn't exist, then people could, by the process of elimination determine what does exist. It's also easier to not respond to anything. The Government neither confirms nor denies what happens at the so-called Area 51, but what happens there is rather mundane as compared to aliens, bioduplication and nude conspiracies (Lyndon LaRouche was right!). |

He swore the work train he was on once went out to Springfield Boulevard, because the trip past 179 took so long. Either the T/O was really dogging it, or the Trackman nodded off (too many diesel fumes). This is similar to the stories of people who "saw" 76th St. |

Since I lived in Hollis at the time, what happened in Bellaire/Queens Village didn't concern/interest me at the time, it was light years away even though only a couple of miles. But I'm glad, now, that those people in the area dug in their heels and said, this far and no farther about the Clearview (great road for speeding though; straight and relatively flat!). Otherwise I would be just about living on the service road of the expressway extension.Although I might have some sympathy for your (potential) loss, it would have been a good road for everyone else. |

I actually have an issue with the provision for the 2nd Ave subway at Houston St. When I checked it out, it seems too shallow to hold a subway tunnel. Unless they carve out more of the ceiling, the bottom of the 2nd Ave. subway would be in the way of the F train. |

On those walkways in Sheepshead Bay, the walkways are lower than street level and there are steps connecting them to the sidewalks of the regular (newer) streets. Where those old houses face the regular streets, they are sunken. Not far from the place of our discussion, on the west side of 79th Street, 149th Avenue drops sharply into an older neighborhood that appears to have poorer drainage, this becomes Loring Avenue in Brooklyn. The intersection of Amber Street and Loring Avenue has two levels, the west/south upper level and east/north lower level, with no connection. 78th Street/Sapphire street is interrupted midblock between 149th/Loring and 151st Avenue/Stanley Avenue by a similar level change (without a ramp or pedestrian stairs). None of these places have subways.A high water table would be a reason for the city not wanting to dig, or dig very deeply to build a sewer. So there's little question that if there were a 76th Street station, it'd be inundated by now. |

Just that provisions were made for future expansion (setbacks and vacant lots in an otherwise fully developed area). At this portion of Hillside the setbacks are sort of out of place, when everything else between 187 and 196 has been built out to the property line. Even construction within the last ten years, on the south side, in that area, is set back further than it needs to be. Does someone have an easement? Let the conspiracy grow. Nothing subway related went past 184 Place/185 Street AFAIAC; those streets merge at Hillside in a small triangle. |

But that IS a provision, you can see clearly that the ceiling was done to allow for a line to run above. They could always tunnel out later abover the space, but they wouldn't have to disturb the existing F line. THAT is what a provision is. The only difference is they did a lot more at Utica and Broadway/South 4th. |
