Me too, since my home stomping grounds and took care to get it while I could. Only moved about 2 miles away, but there is no station shell at 212 and Hillside, nor at Springfield and Hillside.The glass disks on 212 and Jamaica are (a) rare, and (b) typical of what was put over sidewalk vaults. This responds to the theory that the route shifted from Hillside to Jamaica at 212th Street. Hollis Court Blvd. was wider and would have been a better choice for a subway; but then Moses would have had to be careful extending the Clearview to points south. Since I lived in Hollis at the time, what happened in Bellaire/Queens Village didn't concern/interest me at the time, it was light years away even though only a couple of miles. But I'm glad, now, that those people in the area dug in their heels and said, this far and no farther about the Clearview (great road for speeding though; straight and relatively flat!). Otherwise I would be just about living on the service road of the expressway extension. |
