As I have mentioned in several posts, the first I heard of the possibility of the Pitkin subway going farther was in 1959 when the late ERA VP George Horn showed me 2 humps of earth in the median of Conduit Av that were supposed to be the ends of the tunnels for A7 and A8. In 1962, an IND C/R mentioned to me that he had been in there on a drill move from Euclid although there os some speculation that it might have been from Pitkin Yd. What is known is that at one time A7 and A8 yd leads were connected to K5 and K6 leads and were long enough that moves from Pitkin Yd were made into those tracks before the switches were removed which was sometime before 1962. It could be possible that before K5 and K6 leads were extended towards the present Grant Av station that they were not long enough for any moves to be made and that when they were completed, A7 and A8 were no longer needed and thus were disconnected, the rails removed and the remainder of the tunnels sealed off.
