The city did do something similar by routing the Fulton St line slightly north under Truxton park to build ENY station. The question is whether or not Truxton Park was city property at the time or was it private property that was condemned for the purpose of constructing the subway with the collateral effect of creating a small triangular park. It could also be possible that the land where Pitkin was through routed might have been in foreclosure at the time since it was at the end of the depression and there may have been no owners in a position to really object to such construction. There also might have been a swap between parcels of land to create the new avenue.
