71st Ave-Continental-Forest Hills question |
|
Posted by phxtusbusfan on Mon Apr 28 00:22:12 2008 I am in NYC until Wednesday afternoon. When waiting to board a Jamaica bound train today, I overheard the station master (unsure of correct term) of Roosevelt Ave. refer to a station as "Continental Ave." I was confused for a few moments as I'd never seen the name "Continental Ave." on any subway map. Additionally, I heard conductors on both the E and R trains also refer to "Continental Ave." as a station. I did notice that the large signs hanging above the platforms did state "71st Ave-Continental Ave-Forest Hills." However, the maps (and signs on the pillars) refer to it simply as "71st Ave-Forest Hills" and the tiles simply say "71st Ave." Why do the automated announcements by conductors use the name "Continental Ave." which in printed/posted material is the LEAST common name for the station? I am simply curious. |
