Fifth Avenue is a more prestigious name in Manhattan than "Central Park East" is. The building numbers are continuous through its run along the east side of Central Park. The same cannot be said about 8th Avenue and Central Park West. CPW has its own numbering system (1 is at Columbus Circle, 500 is at CPN, with every block adding 10 to the building numbers [10 CPW @ 61st, 20 CPW @ 62nd, etc.).Interestingly, Frederick Douglass Blvd (what 8th Avenue becomes north of Central Park) continues 8th Avenue's numbering system. |
