Wow that took forever didn't it?

It took me three trips to court to get this all resolved. On my first trip 60 days after getting the ticket I was told that my fine was $900. All thoughts of not contesting the ticket disappeared instantly when I heard that figure. The BS part was that I was supposed to pay a bail equal to the fine amount to even GET a court date. They gave me an additional 3 months to come up with the bail amount. As it turned out the arraignment judge also thought that the bail was too high and tossed it out so I was able to get a trial with no bail. My trial was then scheduled 30 days later where today...

My deputy was a NO SHOW!

Fantastic. I still think that the principle is important, but I really didn't want to have to pay $900. About half of the people in the room had their cases dismissed for the same reason. Hell the judge didn't even show up. We were all TOLD to sign a paper saying that we give up our right to a trial by a regular judge (even though the paper clearly stated that you didn't have to sign).

The judge threw out another case without hearing testimony. A woman had been given a ticket for being on a train only minutes (they didn't say how many) after her ticket expired. The judge called it a blatant misuse of the ticketing process. I assumed that he meant the violation ticket and not the train ticket although he didn't really say. ;)
