Do you have to hold onto the ticket while you're on the bus in case you're inspected?

Some transit systems have hybrid fare systems. London, for instance, has faregates at most but not all stations, and the driver checks that you've somehow paid your fare on most buses. But some stations (including the entire DLR, aside from Bank and, I suppose, Stratford) are ungated, and so-called bendy-buses allow boarding through all three doors. Throughout the system, you must keep your ticket (paper or electronic) handy in case an inspector asks to see it. And I think Paris has faregates everywhere, but I did once see an inspector inspecting the tickets of everybody exiting a station.
