MTA’s Proposed 2025-2029 Capital Program

The MTA’s proposed 2025-2029 Capital Program was released today. According to Newsday, highlights of the plan include purchase of new rail cars. NYCT would get 1,500 new cars, while the LIRR and MNR would share 500 new cars.

There are also expansion plans for the design and construction of the Interborough Express (light rail) and to begin work on electrifying the LIRR’s Main Line from Ronkonkoma to Yaphank.

The MTA Board has to approve the plan first and then it will be submitted to the State’s Capital Program Review Board for approval.
