Mid-island has an advantage, though - you serve people living both north and south of the tracks. And the Port Jeff line is slower.

Someone living in Selden or Coram would much rather drive to Medford than Port Jeff. And Medford would also attract people from Patchogue who want a one-seat ride to NYC. Similarly, Mastic/Shirley people who aren't right near the station might rather drive to Yaphank.
