3rd Rail to Montauk is overkill, once you get past Mastic/Riverhead, there’s little commuter demand to the city. Regardless, I think a wiser use of limited resources is to invest more in sidings, expanding platforms, signalisation, buying more cars and locomotives, and making Long Island City a full-time terminal for diesel service.
