Ah, so the known white supremacist terrorist who drove a car into a crowd of peaceable counter-protesters (ISIS' currently approved method of attack, as recently demonstrated in London and Paris) didn't "escalate" things?The remedy for hate speech, as Supreme Court justice Samuel Alito correctly noted, is more speech. That's exactly what the peaceful counter-protesters were doing, adding more speech in opposition to the unmitigated bigotry on display. Of course, the Nazis then had to kill and maim them. Oh, and that "permit" issue? You are correct, Vanguard America originally did have an assembly permit for a five-hour rally on Saturday. However, as soon as it became clear the white supremacist terrorists were looking for trouble to draw attention to themselves, the Charlottesville police declared a state of emergency, and revoked their permit after just fifteen minutes. That the counter-demonstrators showed up in far greater numbers than the instigators of the violence, tells me that there are still good people in the South willing to speak up against racism, homophobia, and hatred, all of which were on parade in Charlottesville last weekend. People like you are just upset at being shown for the dangerous bigots you really are. |
