Everyone did stuff like that. Europeans were just more civilized. But I don't buy into the myth of the noble Indians. Not everything that the Europeans did was totally on the up and up but they won not because they were more evil but simply because they were more technologically advanced and less susceptible to disease. These things happen, it is and always was a part of human life.One fact that most ignore is that the Spanish didn't destroy the Aztec Empire on their own, they had help. The other groups who were conquered by the Aztecs had no problem helping the Spanish overthrow them. That doesn't apply directly to the U.S., but it's not unique in the European colonization of the Americas. |
