I have nothing against that, given the demands of the job.It is true that overtime is a big factor. There were several years during my EMS career, where I got mandated so many times, I earned more than my captain did! That wasn't at all unusual, either. It happened all the time. However, because EMS personnel are "civilian employees" of the FDNY, it's not 20 years to your pension, it's 25...and not what cops and firefighters enjoy, either. There is a parity fight underway now, to get uniformed status for the medics... |
