Bootom line.....it's a state pension based upon years of service. So calling them "civil service pensions" is a fair generalization.

You don't get one without years in the cocoon. Which limits one's perspectives on what changed in the real world since then, like the demise of "lifetime employment" pretty much everywhere. I know people that have a half dozen 401ks from different jobs held over the years. Surely there's people with even more now.
