Some of them aren't spinsters. Some of them are attractive women who "haven't had any recently" and would be quite receptive to an approach. Now, if you're 20 years they're junior, OK, I sympathize with you.

No, a good indicator that it is kosher is going to Shamash.org and looking it up and then seeing who certifies the place.

Unfortunately, I think it has to be very hard for inter Jewish-Christian marriages. Even if both parties are not religious. So many of the holidays, secular or religious revolve around religion.
One of my friends (not a close friend in this case, but a friend just the same) married a Jewish girl, and they get along great. probably because neither are particularly religious, although both their families are, but they got by all that okay. They have been through a couple of rifts though.
The hardest probably was when she became pregnant. Neither is religious however, when it was found out that the baby would be a son, they came up with a real problem. What to raise the baby as. His parents are Italian Catholics (he was even born in Italy), and her's are Jewish (reform I believe).
They had to decide if he would even have a bris. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but the father apparently isn't even circumcised, and he felt no reason to have the son done. It doesn't sound like a hard decision, but the really had a hell of a time with the whole thing. But the kid is going to be raised Jewish, so we all went to a bris reception.....
It's about 5 years later, and they are all still doing good, and the families have become closer and closer. At the beginning it was hard, but everyone is adjusting.

It's hard enough if you have a non-religious Christian marrying a religious Christian, or a religious Jew marrying a a Conservative Jew, but when you start mixing the two you take a hard situation and make it harder.

My current girlfriend dated a Jewish guy before me. They didn't break up because of that, but she said it was always the hardest around the holidays, whether it be hers or his.

You forgot the chain smokers; the C.T.s; the gold-diggers; the 250-pounders wearing a Size 8; the manic-depressives; the total airheads; those who are perpetually "between jobs"; those that complain about their ex-boyfriends to you; the trick question trap-setters ("If we had sex right now, would you use a condom?"); the nitpickers; the biological clock-watchers who only want to meet a man as a means of having a baby; or any combination of these- many of them also fitting the descriptions you've sited above.

Is LeJuda- or 'Le Puke-a', as I referred to it- still running dances? Back in the eighties it was either that or the 'Stewie dances' (don't ask me WHY they were called that!) at the temples. If I went to a non-secterian nightclub and met a woman with any redeeming qualities, she was invariably Gentile. I would imagine the advent of the Internet has made things even worse. More opportunities to lie, stand each other up, etc.

I'm about as nonreligious as they come, but felt compelled to date Jewish women because my parents (equally nonreligious) stated if I took up with a non-Jew, they would have nothing to do with her- or me. This can be blamed on my oldest brother, who had a fifteen-year marriage with a devout Catholic that yielded four kids they couldn't afford. It also planted the idea in my folks' head that non-Jewish women are nasty and crazy, just like their then daughter-in-law. Of course, there are NO nasty or crazy Jewish women, are there-?

By the time I hit 30, I pretty much gave up hope of ever finding anyone. It's testament to my ability to remember a phone number shouted from someone in a parked car across the street from my own that ultimately got me hooked up with my spouse of fourteen years. After untold thousands of my hard-earned dollars spent on singles' endeavors, we met on a blind date by an older woman who had met each of us just once. That's the one who shouted out her number from her car across the street.

So any time I start to curse my luck- or wife- over anything, I think back.

But you have to BE lucky. A lot of my friends in their mid to late forties haven't been. And the pressure you receive from your relatives and married friends doesn't help either.

Probably the most bizarre woman I ever dated- and THAT'S saying something- was a one-shot I met at LePuka. On a Friday night after the movie (which she talked all the way through about totally extraneous stuff) we went to a diner. At one point she asked me if I was Orthodox.

I had to drink milk in order to stop choking on my ham omelette.

I agree. Why start off a relationship/marriage with two completely different sets of traditions? It makes no sense. And when you combine traditions, if it's even possible, you may end up with something that fulfills the spirit of one or both traditions, but what you end up with is not "traditional," and as such you've killed the "tradition" for you and your family.

Which brings up a troublesome issue also related to the Woman Shortage. Assume that a Jewish organization rents out a nightclub for a singles' party. Assume also that the gender distribution of party attendees is typical for all singles' events.

When I went to events for Jewish Deaf Singles, that wasn't the problem. The problem was a shortage of oral deaf and hard of hearing Jews (my variety) - the events were heavily concentrated upon signing deaf. Furthermore, the (Orthodox Union-organized) group focused on Shabbat, much to the anglophones' discomfort (i.e., they shomered Shabbos, with all that implies).

That ratio will be far less skewed when the next census is taken. Black women are far more willing to date and marry white men today than they did 10 years ago. You're seeing a similar change in attitude in other interracial pairings, like black male/asian female.

The "Spanish" language started off in a specific part of Spain (Castile), and is also thus known as "castellano" (Castilian). Other Spanish tongues include Catalan (spoken in Barcelona IIRC), Basque (spoken in the North and not a Romance language, unlike most Spanish languages), and others (whose names escape me at the moment).

I have a number of friends, both male and female, Jewish and not, who have intermarried. In some cases the marriages have lasted, others not. Sometimes they got a judge to marry them. Other times they were able to get a priest and a Reform rabbi. Only a Reform rabbi would perform at such a ceremony. (It led to an inadvertent joke at one wedding. "Where's the rabbi?" "In the bathroom with the Father." You can make your own punchline.)

Religious law states that a child of a mixed marriage would assume the religion of the mother. That was the case with all the 'half Jewish' kids I grew up with. But all our mixed-couple friends and relatives are going the Jewish route, even when the mother is not. Again, in this case a bris or naming would only be presided over by a Reform mohel or rabbi.

One friend of mine, a devout Reform Jew (Yes, there is such a thing!) had an unsuccessful- and fortunately childless- nine-year marriage to an unaffiliated Jew. His relative shortness- 5'6"- and blue-collar job made him unattractive to Jewish women he met at singles' functions (that he was financially flush and of great personality meant NOTHING), so he married someone he wasn't fully comfortable with. His second wife, who he met and moved in with about two years after his divorce, is Irish Catholic. She and her sibs all went to public school, but all went through Communion- so they're religious, but not excessively so. His parents love her; her parents love him (circumstances not at all evident in his first marriage) and their daughter just had her first birthday.

My eldest brother was only 23 when he married the first time, to a devout Catholic. They had four kids within ten years, all of whom went to Catholic school. As one could imagine, this was a tremendous financial strain that helped doom their marriage. She wanted nothing to do with his side of the family with the result that we went multiple years without seeing them- and they lived a mere sixty miles out on the Island. She fought the divorce tooth and nail, cleaned him out good and reneged on visitation whenever she could. Fortunately, he married again- this time to a nonreligious Jew with two daughters from her previous marriage. One of the first things he did was to get himself 'fixed'.

If you can stand one more anecdote, a longtime female friend of mine who's Jewish married an Italian Catholic. (It was at their wedding that the rabbi-priest-in-the-bathroom gag was concocted.) His parents and sister wanted nothing to do with her or the wedding, while her parents were fully involved. It probably helped that her older sister had a long-running, very successful marriage to an Italian Catholic. Sadly, after about eight years and two daughters, she found he was cheating and threw him out.

What's interesting is how many instances I've observed of non-Jewish parents being ECSTATIC when their daughter marries, or even dates, a Jewish man. After all, Jewish men are all fabulously successful and doting. We don't drink, curse or fail. But at the same token, non-Jewish parents seem to HATE when their SON marries, or even dates, a Jewish WOMAN.

Maybe they've been to the same singles' functions as Adam?

Ha ha, Dates from Hell. I had a few of them back in the mid-1990's when I did a lot of dating before finally getting married. There was Elke, a young woman from Germany who had come to New York to pursue a career as a filmmaker. We met through a personals ad, of all things (back then they still worked okay for men), and got together at a diner on Sixth Avenue. It was a fairly cool day in September or October, not hot by any means, but Elke arrived literally dripping with sweat. A bead of sweat would drop off her nose every 30 seconds or so. Now, there probably was a perfectly valid explanation, she might've just come from the gym or something, but the point is she offered NO explanation even though she must've known that I noticed. She just sat there and dripped.
And then there was another young woman who I also met via a personals ad. Though barely 30 at the time, she was a well-known authority in a particular field of learning. A Google search of her name today will yield a number of links to her writings and lectures. We went out a number of times and the relationship got quite serious. Unfortunately, it turned out that this highly educated and affluent woman had standards of personal hygiene that ... well, suffice to say that a filthy female skell sleeping on the E train would be appetizing.

Ouch! I didn't get that at first.

Religious law states that a child of a mixed marriage would assume the religion of the mother.

Yes, that is what seems to happen most of the time. Actually though, I do know an Italian Catholic woman that married a Jewish guy, and the kids were raised Jewish.
I also know another Catholic girl that married a Jewish guy, and they were actually married in the Catholic church I believe, but one of the stipulations of marrying in the church, or through the church is that the kids MUST be raised Catholic, and so they are in this case.

Nothing changed between the 1990 and 2000 censuses:

In 2000, African-American men had white wives 2.65 times more often than black women had white husbands. In other words, in 73 percent of black-white couples, the husband was black and wife was white.
(This interracial gender gap is even sharper among black-white couples who cohabit without being married. Five times as many black men live with white women as white men live with black women.)
Although some commentators had predicted that this intermarriage disparity should be evening out, this 2.65 ratio is similar to the 2.54 ratio in 1990.

I had a few strange ones too.
There was the one that I went out to dinner a few times in Manhattan, and once randomly at dinner I mentioned something about the subway (transportation reason....never mention "liking" trains for anything but when in the early stages of dating). But anyway, she said something to the effect of "Oh, I'm scared to ride the subway". Well, right there and then I thought to myself, "Yeah, this is going to 'work'".....

Then there was another, that didn't allow you to get a word in edgewise. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I couldn't say more than two words within an hour. Top that off, she was a vegitarian (I dated a few, but this one was extreme). She was one of those "I'm fat" chicks, but you could count every bone in her body. Ugh.
I dated a different vegetarian once too, and she was "alright". Nice girl, but I just couldn't get used to sitting there eating a nice juicy steak or something at dinner while she ate her spaghetti and beanballs or something.

LOL

I'll have to check the employee bulletin on how to get one. I'm wondering if there's a lot of red tape involved.

Then again, it may be considered "official uniform", and would be bad if I gave it to the public.

I know of at least one religious employee who wears a regular yarmulke.

If I see someone wearing an MTA yarmulke, I'll try to get a picture of it.

South Jersey or North? If they aren't as bad as other jersey girls i've met, they could've came here.
I'd show a planeload of girls a good time. Even better if it was the A-380.

Thanks, yeah, a picture of one would be cool as well. Bonus points for an additional picture of you wearing one.

Don't forget the MTA-approved tzitzis.

Interestingly, the black guys with white women couples usually involve either a suprisingly blue-eyed, blonde woman, or very large obese women.

The blue-eyed, blonde women are for the alpha black males with money. The large obese women are for the loser black guys who want "any" white woman. Admittedly, as a black male, you have be wary of any white girl that you come across. From my own personal observations, I've found that some are only using you for sex based on rumours, and others seem to be "rejected by the other white men".

The latter version indeed is more popular, in fact by something like a 5:1 ratio or even more. Although in Britain, where racially mixed marriages are quite common, the gender/race distribution is nearly even.

Just as an anecdotal sidenote, most of my black male friends seem to have no qualms about dating white women for short or long term relationships. In contrast, my white male friends seem to be adverse to dating black women and generally don't find them attractive. The few who have dated black women weren't fond of the experience and wouldn't do it again. I don't know what's causing it, but there seems to be some factor that's scaring off white men (and some black men) from black women in the US that just doesn't exist in the UK.
