However, they reversed course pretty quickly. When you consider some of the more draconian options, such as full quarantine and shutdown of everything like New Zealand did, it could have been much worse. |

The only shutdown was on immigration. People wishing to enter New Zealand had to go into a supervised quarantine for 20 days (at a luxury hotel). This restriction was instituted for travel from high risk areas on 4 Feb 2020 (before the first case) and extended to all areas on 23 Mar 2020, the day after 58 new cases were reported. New Zealand acted quickly. It recorded its first case on 1 Mar 2020; 4 cases on 8 Mar 2020; 3 cases on 15 Mar 2020 and 58 on 22 Mar 2020. They went into lockdown to prevent the spread. Public events were cancelled starting 19 Mar 2020. School were closed on 25 Mar 2020. Workplace closings were recommended on 22 Mar 2020, required for some on 24 Mar 2020, and required for all but key workers on 30 Mar 2020. There were restrictions on public gatherings over 100 starting on 22 Mar 2020. This was extended gatherings over 10 on 27 Mar 2020. Unlike most countries, they also instituted robust contact tracing on 8 Mar 2020. This policy and its public acceptance allowed them to limit lockdowns to areas where people had been exposed to the virus. N.B. 25% of the population lives in Aukland, targeting only affected areas disproportionately lager population due to NZ's population distribution. The quick implementation of these policies resulted in a drastic decrease of new cases. Controls were lifted, as the cases decreased. Workplace closures transitioned to recommended on 2 May 2020 and were removed entirely on 19 May 2020. All restrictions on public gatherings were removed by 11 June 2020. All stay at home restrictions were removed by 14 May 2020. All school restrictions were removed by 12 Jun 2020. The immigration restriction was the exception. All those entering NZ continued to be quarantined until 2 Mar 2022. All border control measures were not lifted until 28 Sep 2022. NZ had benefit of learning from Italy's experience. This resulted in quick and strict measures to contain the virus. These measured paid off. Through 26 May 2024, NZ suffered 776 deaths per million population. The comparable figure for the US is 3512 per million. By contrast the US recorded 11 cases on 9 Feb 2020; 4 on 16 Feb 2020; 16 of 23 Feb 2020; 33 on 1 Mar 2020 and 391 on 8 Mar 2020. The US never instituted an immigration ban nor supervised quarantine for those entering the country. One result was that stay at home restrictions for all but essential workers wasn't lifted until 23 Feb 2021 and were not lifted entirely until 4 April 2022. That's nearly two years later than such restrictions were removed in New Zealand. |

It also sucks that very nearly all masks were being made in China. When the pandemic went public, besides the people who generously hoarded masks, the Chinese govt decided to restrict exports of masks. There was a supply of masks that the govt had, but it wasn't maintained and many had expired. |

Those entrapped in the Cult of Maga have placed their awfully misguided "faith" in a viciously flawed disgusting soulless shell of "man". Not out of honor,or good will,or even good intentions. Let's be honest... Let's be 100 percent clear. Trump represents "the System". The system that has enslaved, divided, tortured, murdered it's way across the planet in different forms , different fashions.. The system that has brought wholesale pain suffering and hatred through division. It's been brewing under the surface for some time, every so often peeking it's ugly head out of the dirt to take a look around. Has it become soo bad for you, that you are willing to sacrifice the country on an alter of more pain and suffering? Are you that blind to where this road leads? Trump is nothing but an old man, with serious mental health issues, and inflated sense of self. He doesn't care about the people he 'instructs'. He doesn't care about anyone, since he believes he is "better than everyone". He envisions himself as a "great man", whether "great" meant infamous or famous didn't make a difference, since he was a liar and cheat. He was chosen,by some "powerful people",to be the Face of "their movement". The utter nonsense in this, and it should be apparent to all,is that the oppressor cannot claim to be the Oppressed. Cannot make up the rules,then cry to the world how wrong those rules are. Cannot create or give pain, then complain to the world how much he is hurting because of it. The very fact that this Maga movement is based on lies and deception, spread thick across the country,is absolutely amazing. What's even more amazing,is the narrative being pushed is a Lie based on self inflicted wounds. Nobody wants to take responsibility. Nobody wants to accept the horrors. Nobody wants to stand up for the Truth. So they allow others to "create truth" that they will be able to swallow easily. There are so many fingers and hands involved, from ordinary folks,to government officials,to Supreme court justices. But most of all, Corporations are heading the movement, using whatever means available, including public mouthpieces to push their agenda. Corporations are Not PEOPLE, not in the same manner the average person would be. We know what they are. What they mean to "the whole world". What they have done to it. Trump himself is part of that world, which is why he did what he did For THEM during his first term. It's the reason why he never answered for his white collar crimes. It's the reason why so many people are protecting him even now. It's the reason why, even after being convicted of several criminal acts, people refuse to realize that, and accept that. The decent thing for him and his supporters would have been to drop out of this "race", since his ability to do much is serverly limited by the laws of this country. However, the very fact that this man has NOT "DROPPED OUT",is Still being pushed as the Republican Candidate, is Still all over the net, media and everywhere else.. shows the American people exactly what this government truly stands for. Time will show this period to be dark, and even darker still. When a former president has been convicted of felony counts, when it's court system refused to do it's job. When that man turned his back on democracy,to embrace the dictatorship autocratic method,to Rule, not govern. Placing hatred and fear in the heart and souls of so many, with lies. The sheer evil,done with the help of so many.. simply because they were selfish enough to BELIEVE IN A LIAR,who promised so much, but gave so little, stolen Much from others, gave nothing in return. He is afraid now. Afraid of suffering the consequences of His own actions.. He loves to shift the responsibility to underlings.. He is a coward. Perfectly willing to throw Anyone and Everyone under the bus for his own sake. This is the man You love. No morals. No honor. No sensibilities. Just self entitled greed, and lust for power...to lord over men. This is who you respect. A despot, who's cruelty knows no bounds. You Do understand that this isn't about politics. However,he knows Politics is the vehicle for him to accomplish his goals. You are a fool. You, and every other Maga supporter, Trump supporter, and whatever else thrown in. When Your candidate lies to you,threatens you,threatens your income,your livelihood, steals food from you through "regulations and drafts" that favor corporate sponsorship.. you get the general idea. What's even worse, is when You double down fact checking, and address the issues, and the candidate double talks,spins and either refuses to quote,or outright deny he said a particular thing, even though that thing has video audio evidence. This is who you support. A criminal who surrounds himself with other criminals. You claim to be a "good person". That depends on how you define "good". |
