They thought mask mandates were a good idea at the time, but as they gained more information they dropped them. Was it an imposition, yes. Did I like it, hell no. However, they reversed course pretty quickly. When you consider some of the more draconian options, such as full quarantine and shutdown of everything like New Zealand did, it could have been much worse.
