If it was paid for by the government and you're still using it, it's a subsidy. There is no comparison between a Class I railroad that gets no government subsidy and pays property taxes to an airline, which is nothing more than a flying bus whose airport, traffic, and dispatching is done by the government. A Class I railroad is a privately owned company that pays to run its own vehicles on infrastructure subsidised by the government. An airline is a privately owned company that pays to run its own vehicles on infrastructure subsidised by the government. Both pay taxes. Seems like a pretty apt comparison to me. |
