"subsidy" is a slippery notion..Not really. A subsidy is when the government gives money or other value to an industry for the purpose of keeping it in business despite unprofitability or to keep its prices low artificially. That's a pretty succinct definition. 1. we all stand upon the shoulders of giants. that's a subsidy. No it isn't. 2. the "will of the people" enables the "government" to provide for our defense from without...and within. that's a subsidy. No it isn't. 3. this basic setup encourages people with lots of money to set up businesses along the railroad property. this puts citizens to work. thats a subsidy. No it isn't. 4. the national railroad grid gave the young country an enhanced sense of purpose and a positive outlook for the future. thereby strenthening it. that's a subsidy. No it isn't. |
