Peter I often agree with many of your postings, but on this issue I have to take umbridge.First, of all you need to get a grip on yourself....the fanancial fate of New York City (still the greatest in the World IMHO) does not rest on Staten Island getting a NASCAR track or the opening of a Wal-Mart store. There are enough reasons for people to come to our city....one of which is the famous subway system, Empire State Building, Wall Street, Central Park, etc., etc. If it comes down to NYC needing NASCAR to stave off fanancial ruin.....then that would be a VERY SAD situation indeed with bacially all hope lost. And I doubt there will ever be such a scenerio. Relax and enjoy a good seegar...it'll help you mellow out. That's my motto. |

Wrong, Peter. You don't build a 80,000 seat arena for just a single event. The down side to an 80,000 seat arena are the horrendous traffic problem that accompanies events, plus the massive land that is used just for parking (the mall parking syndrome, more land is used for parking than the stores). |

Such as people in Cedarhurst complaining about the trains rumbling through their community, trains that have been rumbling through for 100 years. Or the people in Yaphank in fancy new subdivisions complaining about the shooting range that has been there from day one, or the people out east in fancy subdivisions complainging about the irrigation sprinklers going on in the middle of the night, or the tractors starting up at 4:00 in the morning on farms that have been there for long before they were. |

Anyway, the lameness of a sport has little to do with its popularity. Look at the NFL, the world's richest and most successful sports league. Anaheim is Both are in California, but they are named for the city. The New York Giants and Jets are named for New York City, just as the Buffalo Bills are named for their city in New York State. The "New York XXXX of Babylon" is akin to saying the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. No, those count as New York teams, the Meadowlands is close enough to the city. Just as a team from Anaheim would count as an LA team.
