It's an unnecessary duplication of service; there are other routes within 1/2 mile of every one of the 54's stops north of Brielle that go to the mall via areas where PEOPLE live, not squirrels. None of the areas you're proposing to serve lacks service, either. What you lose, though, is the connection from Great Kills to Seaview and Wagner HS. If not for the school, the 54 would have no purpose. |

Unlikely, as there are already two alternates that provide a one-seat ride that cross the route, and one of those parallels it significantly. The 54 exists only for students. Take a look at it in summer. The people who must take a bus to get to the mall don't live along the route, except the Todt Hill Houses, which are 1/3 of a mile from Victory Blvd with the much more frequent 61.If not for the Wagner HS, the 54 would have ceased to exist a decade ago, just like the 55 and 56. I'm surprised that any of these routes even operate outside the peak school travel times. |

Seniors in Tottenville sometimes have one or two classes, and get out early. However, don't you thing the S55 and S56 start service too early? The first S55 leaves the mall at 6:15. Boy, I wonder how empty that bus must be. |

The houses are called the Todt Hill Houses, but they are actually geographically in Castleton Corners, which is more middle class (the median income going a few blocks in all directions is slightly higher than the median SI income)Todt Hill proper is very wealthy, but that's further east (by the SI Academy like you said). East of Slosson can be considered the beginning of Todt Hill, and the wealth becomes more apparent as you go up the hill. I mean, you don't see huge fancy houses in the surrounding area. Maybe the projects caused the surrounding area to become less wealthy (though again, it's not a poor area by any means). |

It is certainly possible that the project complex is located geographically within Todt Hill, but that building reflects neither the property nor population stock of the area. Todt Hill is most similar to Riverdale & Fieldston in the Bronx. So what? Fieldston and Riverdale both have 24/7 two-seat rides (at most) into Manhattan. |

Hopefully, the toll hikes will present the perfect opportunity to implement such a service. I can see it becoming popular anyway because it's not that much more expensive than the S89->HBLR ($90 per month of a MetroCard, plus $64 for an HBLR pass = $154, vs. a little over $200 for an express bus MetroCard), but the problem is that before the toll hikes, there might not have been enough ridership to support both the S89 and X33. |

More and more Staten Islanders work in Jersey City or Hoboken as banks and brokerage firms relocate jobs out of Manhattan to those NJ cities. An express route as always made more sense to me because of the length of the commute. Years ago a private company ran the "144" along Hylan to Jersey City, since then many more Staten Islanders have taken jobs in Jersey City. |

I know, and the S89 can tap even more into that market by switching places with the S59 and extending to Tottenville. But the problem is that I still don't think there is enough demand to support both an express bus and local bus in the same SI-JC market. I mean, the S89 gets decent ridership (more or less a seated load going over the Bayonne Bridge), but an express bus would eat into that ridership. But now that the tolls have been raised, people are going to look for more alternatives, and there might be enough ridership to split between the 2. |

Well, I definitely think that there are people who would use transit to get to Jersey City if it were a one-seat ride. Ridership would definitely be higher on an X33 than the S89 going over the Bayonne Bridge.Maybe it's because I use the S89 daily, but I'd prefer that it stay. The disadvantage of the X33 is that it doesn't help people traveling within Staten Island. Admittedly, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if the S89 were eliminated, as for the most part, the S44/S59 have enough capacity for those riders. But like I said, at this point, there's definitely going to be enough demand for at least a few X33 trips. |

Some execs are looking at post-Bloomberg NYC and don't like what they see. A few mentioned that they thought that Christine Quinn's endorsement of the dregs was a bad move. She has a good chance of being the next mayor as do a few other extreme leftists who also support the dregs.Beyond that it gets murky involving stuff that no one wants to tell me about. S57 rerouted up Jewett Avenue S66 eliminated (replaced by S57 & S67) S67 reinstated, and serves Grymes Hill, goes up Watchogue Road, and continues up Deppe Place and the SIE service road, ending with the S48/98 in Arlington. (You could also call it the S66 if you wanted to) |
