Maybe it was partially my fault. I thought all of you would know what "bonus" means from last year's summer NYTM Nostalgia Train Excursions. But I guess I was wrong. "Bonus" in this context means the "extra" or "optional" or "alternative" portion of the trip that is available to participants who are more interested in additional RAIL RIDING than going on whatever culturally significant tour the NYTM offers at the end of the line (in this case, it's a trip to the Bronx Zoo, as the title of the excursion strongly implies). So all your posts about the ToMC were ridiculous since I was only talking about the BONUS portion of this trip. Since I specifically said that the Lo-V cars were running on the BONUS portion of the trip, that should tell you that something else is running the rest of the trip. And that something else is the ToMC. Others in this thread complained about the lack of info on the website, or in general. I clearly stated that the info wasn't on the website, and as for "in general", I just gave you the info! If you have any questions, please let me know. Take Pride,

OTOH the repainted Rebirds are just there for more passenger capacity. And also so that the train itself will "have a fighting chance" as I've heard. I've heard the "museum cars" have had some trouble, so the additional redbirds (of many colors) also serve that purpose. At least they won't need a rescue train or w/e that was for the Yankee Sta. "Radically changed interiors"..... what got changed?? (i's been outta the loop)Perhaps radically should describe the GOH'd R 32-40. But as far as a changed interior, the addition of A/C, flip in vent windows replacing drop sashes, new linoleum floor, and replacement of fluorescent light fixtures. It would make it difficult to restore to as new appearance. Bill "Newkirk" |

It been some years since the R-12,15,17,33S have been running as the TOMC so who knows how their reliability is. If the TA can dig up an R-22 for restoration that would make it a five car train, one more car than the Low-V has. Bill "Newkirk" |

I would think that at the turn of the last century, railfans of the time didn't care for the steel battleships which replaced the "character" of forney steam engines, wooden coaches and gas lamps.Although your point mirrors that of Selkirk, which is okay, look at it this way. That old 'steel battleships' that are around today are there for riding, if road worthy, or just just visiting at museums. Where are the old Forneys and steam coaches ? They exist on paper in books and photos. If there was an operating Forney engine with some era coaches, that would definitely generate interest. The remaining 'steel battleships' are there in person. Not just on paper and photo. Wasn't an old Forney engine found some years ago abandoned in Alaska ? Bill "Newkirk" |

The railway preservation movement didn't get started until the 1920s,and not in earnest until the WW-II era. By that time most of the older equipment was gone. Besides the derelict Manhattan forneys in Alaska, at least 2 Chicago forneys survive. And there are several preserved examples of rapid transit wooden steam coaches from that era. |
