I would think that at the turn of the last century, railfans of the time didn't care for the steel battleships which replaced the "character" of forney steam engines, wooden coaches and gas lamps.Although your point mirrors that of Selkirk, which is okay, look at it this way. That old 'steel battleships' that are around today are there for riding, if road worthy, or just just visiting at museums. Where are the old Forneys and steam coaches ? They exist on paper in books and photos. If there was an operating Forney engine with some era coaches, that would definitely generate interest. The remaining 'steel battleships' are there in person. Not just on paper and photo. Wasn't an old Forney engine found some years ago abandoned in Alaska ? Bill "Newkirk" |
