Tower 18 R.I.P. (Photos) |

Posted by ChicagoPCCLCars on Mon Oct 26 00:29:53 2009 Looking west we find a Pink line train entering the Loop seconds after a Green line train left. For the weekend closedown, Green and Pink line trains will turn, using the Wells Street side of the Loop. Orange and Brown line trains will link up, turning at Lake and Wells to use the Lake Street side of the Loop. These two photos are looking north.... this would be the scene from the front of a northbound Green or a westbound Pink line train during the reroute. We'll turn to the left, from Wells to Lake Streets. Now we're looking south. This would be from a southbound linked Orange/Brown train. We'll turn to the left onto Lake Street during the reroute. The reroutes will mean no switch throwing by hand at all. There will be no straight moves across any other routes either. Flagmen will be posted due to the limited visibility around curves. This coming weekend, Tower 18 in Chicago at Lake and Wells is scheduled to be no more. Over the weekend, the controls will be moved to a temporary location at the head of a new bungalow constructed at track level between Lake ST and Randolph. A clever scheme that maintains weekend service for the Pink, Green, Orange and Brown lines should be approved this week. David Harrison |
