On the weekends for just two straight months (December 1988-February 1989), operating between 145th Street (lower level) and Chambers Street-WTC. One story I heard had it that they were taken off the weekend schedule was that one citizen complained to MTA NYC Transit about the loud rumble (from the heavy trucks and flatwheels most likely) from the R-10's, stating it shook off the dishes to the floor from her Central Park West apartment.

Then, when the R-38's were sidelined for one summer weekend in 1989 (as I recall), only one green R-10 "C" train was assigned back and I had seen it on a Sunday run. The gradual retirements of the green R-10's started around March 1989, with the first one of them to be removed from service was car #3193.
