At least the R16's had electric doors, operable from the inside. But they were horribly abused towards the end, a minor GOH would not have been possible. There were also not enough of them in 1984, when the decision was made. The GE units were already scrapped, and only about 80 or so WH units were on the roster (infesting the J line). |
