Healthy New York pretty much told my mom to go away when she informed them that her insurance lapsed due to my father's passing, and her only source of income was Social Security widows benefits. Mind you, my mother is pretty much the unicorn that everybody has been talking about. At 62, she's too young for Medicare, but her income is too high for Medicaid, and she isn't really healthy or skilled* enough for a full-time job that would pay her benefits. Social Security pretty much laughed at her when she wanted to apply for disability, but this is a woman who struggles just to go up five steps in her own home. Obamacare with the subsidies is pretty much the only way that she'll get insurance.

*She has been a homemaker since the 1980s...
