The only populations now served by Medicare are those over 65 and end stage kidney disease patients on dialysis. This insurance program was created to serve these populations when the private sector WOULD NOT. Medicaid serves low income kids and the disabled, so long as they meet income criteria.

The reason we spend so much of our GDP on healthcare is because it is NOT a socialized system. Countries with socialized healthcare spend much less and see roughly equal results.
