Unlike a new route serving a never-before existing transit market, the Q70 is serving a mostly-mature transit market consisting of people diverted from the Q33. To that extent, the Q70 should be starting out as a substantially mature bus route, not having to rely upon people "finding out" about it. Some additional ridership will occur as a result of (1) being more convenient to people coming from Nassau County, and (2) being somewhat faster than the Q33. Both of these aspects will take some time to develop, as people will have to "find out" about the Q70 to change from their present driving (or other alternative travel means) to riding route Q70. Here, 30 people is a good healthy number for a route like this (and for a route where air travelers are anticipated, you really can't plan for higher passenger loads given the larger footprint occupied by people with luggage). |
