Posted by Newkirk Images on Mon Feb 16 13:50:13 2009 Yesterday, I inspected the current rehab of the Newkirk Ave. station and Newkirk Plaza above. I'm wondering why the walls and wrought iron fences were removed, also exposing the original lattice steelwork for the first time in many years.Are there plans to deck over the opening that is above the express tracks making the plaza more like a mall ? As as resident in the area back in the 60's, there were talks or plans about decking over the open areas, installing a gazebo etc., basically giving it a whole new look. But that never came to pass. Any ideas what is in the plans ? In a related note, anyone here old enough to remember the Waldell Hobby shop on Newkirk Plaza ? Bill "Newkirk" |
