Sorry, I moved to the Newkirk Ave area nearly 14 years ago so I don't remember the Waldell Hobby Shop. Recently, Newkirk Plaza has some new franchised tenants; Dunkin Donuts, Golden Krust and (opening within 2 weeks), a Subway. I think it's nice to have a few places like these eateries but I hope the mall does not lose the strength of the mom and pop businesses and become oversaturated with everything from McDonalds to Starbucks. As for the decking, ugh!!!! You cannot see which train is approaching Newkirk Ave station, let alone get some interesting photos like these: BTW: For those who are interested in some history, the store behind the Fisherman's Cove restaurant in the second picture is the original 1907 Almac Harware store. To the left of the Newkirk Ave overpass (over the open air CI/BB bound platform), will be the location of a second exit for this station. Next weekend, all Coney Island bound Q service will run express From Prospect Park to Sheepshead Bay (including the Avenue U/Neck Road G.O.), bypassing Newkirk Ave station. |
