It is a term regularly used in transit agency statistics as published in their annual reports. I believe it seeks to count trips as separate point to point; not segments of a longer trip which are referred to as "linked". Classic distinction in my 60s time in NYC--board BMT at 8th & B'way. change at TSQ to IRT to 96th. (trip to the Thalia for some classic movie. That is a single, linked trip. Taking BMT to TSq, quick dinner at Tad's, then IRT to 96th, these are unlinked. thus counting for agency stats I am, two separate customers. |
