The original Triboro plan envisioned using Hell gate to the Btonx. That would require FRA compliand rather that lightrail trains. Ibelieve it would also requirerestoring the 4th main track on the bridge and probably both erd and 4th mains all the way to New Rochelle. In my first daylight ride on thatroute it was clear to me therehad been4 mains, anda few shards of former platforms were still evident. IINM Amtrak eased the curves inplaces by shifting the 2 remaining tracks.
Iam very pleased the Gov Hochul took up theproject though dismayed her crew of advisersrecommendedlight rail, and not going to the Bronx. As I have posted before, making suburb to suburb travel connecting New Rochelle to places in Nassau County wouldopen up many new efficient travel opportunities--starting with a quick way fromthe Bronx to JFKwithout having to enter Manhattan. This is not only useful for airline pax, but also airline personnel, and ground services employees.
The whole point of ever more connections, transfer points, is to make all trips more flexible.
It is, after all why o many use cars. (As I am not legal to drive accountvision, I am more concernedabout ease of using transit.)
