Wouldn't 67-foot cars make more sense? |
|
Posted by Wallyhorse on Fri Oct 4 06:48:49 2013, in response to MTA will still be ordering new 75 foot NYC subway cars, posted by Gold_12th on Wed Oct 2 21:04:29 2013. Then maybe they should look at doing 67-foot cars (like the old BMT Standards were) and make them where on the regular lines they can run 10 of those cars (with some overhang at some stations) for 670' trains (or nine cars for 603') OR eight cars (536') in the Eastern Division (and if necessary, lengthening some stations slightly on each end to accommodate 670' trains in most divisions and 536' in the Eastern Division). This could be done where you have sets of three and sets of four cars. This would allow for flexibility in making up train sets of three, four, six, seven, eight, nine or 10 cars as needed. That to me would be a compromise that would allow the R211s to also be used as needed in the Eastern Division since that division did use 67-foot cars when the BMT Standards roamed there. |
