Due to the nature of the wounds, the death of the Rev. Ed Hinds, 61, of St. Patrick's Church "in all likelihood was in fact a homicide," Bianchi told reporters at a news conference Friday afternoon. He said investigators believe Hinds was killed sometime between 11 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday, when his death was discovered after he failed to show up for morning Mass. He was fully dressed in a black clerical robe when police arrived on the scene, Bianchi said. Chatham Borough police were interviewing witnesses and had 50 to 100 police and detectives investigating the case, according to Bianchi. Watch police search the neighborhood » Though he urged residents to go about their daily lives, he warned they "should be extra vigilant during these next couple of days." Parents of children at the church Friday morning were called to come pick up their kids, though they were not believed to be in any immediate danger, Bianchi said. The death was baffling, a church official said. "It makes absolutely no sense. He was a very well-loved pastor and very well respected," said Bishop Arthur J. Serratelli of the Paterson Diocese. "We are praying for the happy repose of his soul," he said. Police had no suspects, Bianchi had said at an earlier news conference. One of my best friends grew up in Brentwood in the 70's and 80's. He hated it. It was hell, and that was back then. He lived off of 5th Ave. |

Yes, a bunch of drunk assholes outside a club at 2:30 in the morning. BTW, that is actually North Patchogue, it's mostly "white people" (20-somethings) at that club.....not that that means anything. This club opened a few months ago, it used to be Side Pockets Billiard Hall. I have driven past it late at night a few times, and it's usually packed, the cars fill up the entire parking lot, and along the street. Security guard stabbed at Patchogue club December 6, 2009 By PATRICK WHITTLE Patrick.Whittle@newsday.com Suffolk police are investigating the early morning stabbing of a security guard outside a Patchogue nightclub early Sunday. Aubrey Love, 39, was stabbed several times outside the 620 Lounge, located at 620 Waverly Ave. in Patchogue, police said. He was transported to a nearby hospital and is listed in stable condition, police said. Witnesses said the stabbing occurred at about 2:45 a.m. as security guards threw a patron out of the club, police said. A group of five men, some carrying knives, attacked the guards and then fled, police said. Police said they believe there were witnesses and ask anyone with information to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. Calls will remain confidential, police said. |
