High income does not make an area "exceptional". The north shore areas you mention are, for the most part, populated by elitist snobs and classist bastards. Bay Shore is much more "accessable" and a happier place to be in than, say, Commack or Head of The Harbor is. Bellmore or Levittown / Great Neck or Locust Valley, same equation. To put it another way, the corner of Bellmore Avenue and Sunrise highway is much more "American" than the corner of North Hempstead Turnpike and Cedar Swamp Road is. As far as I'm concerned, most neighborhoods north of the L.I.E. are the ones to avoid. I gotta laugh at the folks who think money equals nice. |

I lived there from 1961 (when my parents bought a half acre on Pear Street near Wilson Blvd, and my father spent two years coming out on the weekends from Beach 100th Street in Rockaway Beach to chop down trees and lay concrete blocks and build the house where our family of nine children grew up) until 2008 (when my father passed away) and my mother (also deceased) sold it.We moved in, the road was gravel, house was surrounded on three sides by woods, and we lived across the from George Rice`s chicken coops (huge, hundreds of chickens), and most of us kids had the grounds of the Central Islip State Mental Hospital to explore and mess around in, complete with wandering "mental patients", abandoned apple orchids, strawberry and blackberry fields, closed (and spooky) hospital buildings, and plenty of woods for good boys and girls to "play" in. |

Thank you for your participation in the Brentwood thread.I just wanted you to see the destruction being done in modern day America by all those pickup truck driving Confederate flag owners, while the peaceful people wearing rosary beads and backwards Yankee or Philly baseball caps act peacefully. Actually, most of Long Island has seen a lot of violence in recent weeks. Roosevelt. Valley Stream. Uniondale. Hempstead. All have seen multiple shootings and stabbings recently. It's hard to keep up with. No wonder you moved to the kind of environment you chose. You're the man. |

Interesting article.Of course, it does not explain the ultra-violent Italian and Latino cultures in America. I think about the Italians from my old neighborhood who were always in and out of trouble with law enforcement. They were in street gangs. Committed murder. Drug dealing. Mob activity. None of them finished high school. What did each and every one of these Italians-Americans have in common? They came from a household with a mother and father. Link Here |

Not bad.I was expecting it to be in a run down shopping center next to a criminal attorney's office and an all night convenience store that sells pig's feet. Instead, it was a very nice shopping center with a Target, Home Depot and other stores. The Ducks were home and they have a fireworks show whenever they play at home on a Saturday. I watched the fireworks from my outdoor seat at Carrabbas. |

Instead, it was a very nice shopping center with a Target, Home Depot and other stores. Yes, I've been there, and it's a relatively quiet and mundane shopping center. I suspect that most of the patronage comes from the condo complexes that are nearby. We actually went house hunting out there as the condos are cheap, but the RE agent basically admitted that the schools were no good when he presumed that my niece and goddaughter were my children. The really sketchy area of CI is to the North, and it's very downscale compared to the traditional black neighbourhoods of Nassau County. |

I've been to a few Ducks games there, and it's a nice little stadium. It looks about the same as the Staten Island Yankees stadium, and the Cyclones stadium. What's nice about it is that you can actually bring a family and the kids and not break the bank. Tickets are like $8 bucks or so, food is fairly cheap (by stadium standards), and even the beers are only like $5 bucks. |

From what I could tell, however, it's definitely a nice looking stadium. By the way, I ended up with names of 21 prospective customers. Every single one of them repeatedly voicemailed me when I tried to call them the following week. Heck, I don't blame them.
