Well we Republicans have got to stop them. I remember well how they turned an apparent Senate Re-election victory in Minnesota in either 2004 or 2008 into a fight and a dirty one at that until the GOP threw up their hands and let that Democratic clown comedian take over the seat. Illegal ballots cannot be counted and that's the law in Pennsylvania and we heard some cruddy burning female said we can break the law because laws are broken all the time. Trump and the whole GOP force must make sure that only legal ballots are counted or we'll see a replay of what happened almost two decades ago. Bob Casey did NOT win that election; we did and Mac must be seated. The Democrats have become a dirty, filthy imitation of the party of FDR, Harry Truman and JFK, a party I once proudly belonged to. |

FDR took on the Great Depression and instituted Relief, Recovery and Reform, and while there was still work to be done, two thirds of that miserable economic crash was finished when World War II came. That totally ended the GD, and with that FDR led us though WWII only to be cheated out of victory by his death in April, 1945. FDR gave us Social Security, unemployment insurance and laws to correct what was then a corrupt banking system.I'll tell you about Truman if I get a missive from you from what I just wrote, but we are talking about a great and very near great president when talking about those two men. Sorry we disagree on that, but at least we mostly agree on politics now....I said mostly agree. |

There's nothing to "fall for" because the facts speak for themselves. FDR's "relief" prolonged the Great Depression and we were caught napping at Pearl Harbor; his isolationism ended up bringing us into the war almost too late. Never mind his relationship with Alger Hiss, who was given the job of writing the UN Charter and based it on the 1936 USSR constitution.Did we really need Social Security? I've yet to find one good thing about it, and it sure is funny that the USA became a great power without it. And did banking really become less corrupt due to the FDR admin's actions? |

If he wanted to ger elected in Missouri today he had better be a conservative. That Midwest-Border state has become a very strong Republican state today, and if wasn't a GOPER he would have to move to Minnesota or Oregon to get elected. I think he was a near great President, certainly in the Top 10 and perhaps a shade or two higher. |

Yes, we needed Social Security!!!!!! It gave elderly people some muchd needed financial security where before people over 65 had to board up with their children (if they had any)or be destitute. And ask someone who is on SS today. I think you would find they don't agree with you at all. As for the banking laws that were passed during the New Deal paved the way for higher interest rates and more careful scrutiny from the government. The loose laws of the pre ND Era gave bank unlimited power to charge unfair rates of interest on loans and usually put lower middle class families on the hind end of their policies.I'll take you on over the New Deal next round. I've already typed too much and don't want my friends here to think I am too winded on the computer. Suffice to say we are not in agreement on your first paragraph. |

How was it going to end without massive government support? Under Hoover, it was hope that prosperity was just around the corner so the saying went. But the corner had no ending. 25% of able bodies workers were out of work, the industrial complex was crippled and there was no end in sight until help arrived. Look Olag, I get the impression that if I do not agree in total with you I'm not loyal or one of the gang. That sounds like what our enemies in the o ther party practice.....believe my position or you're not relevant. You think the Great Depression would have ended if the government did nothing but let free enterprize to the work. Well history shows that between late 1929 to early 1933 things only got worse. At least be fair and tell the truth that FDR alleviated much of the suffering in this country because THAT IS A FACT!!!!!!! |

How was it going to end without massive government support? It was "massive government support" that prolonged it. Getting out of the way of the private sector was what would have ended it—and history shows that they got in the way of the private sector massively, and that impediment was only removed by the war. You don't cure poisoning with more of the causative poison. You think the Great Depression would have ended if the government did nothing but let free enterprize (sic) to the work. Well history shows that between late 1929 to early 1933 things only got worse It shows no such thing. Not to mention, government interference caused the Depression in the first place—particularly the move to raise interest rates (sound familiar?) to quash so-called market speculation. Hoover himself had lots of government relief programs that made the depression worse. Not to mention, industrial production was repressed under the New Deal. Not to mention, people back then regarded taking government handouts as a disgrace. Congress' insistence on resisting Hoover's attempts to get the private sector up and running again are a big factor; they always pushed him into increasing government "assistance". |

People thinking that SS is a "government handout" is just ignorant. Last time I checked, people pay into Social Security ( and Railroad Retirement). It will always be around because I'm sure members of congress have family members that rely on it. It will never become insolvent. If the fund needs $$$, Uncle Sam will just print out more $$$ |

I retired from Metro North at 60 with 38 years of service with full pension(s) with the condition of surrendering the Vanguard investment account that MN set up. If you kept your Vanguard, you had to work until 63. This was agreed to by both sides at the bargaining table. Either way, you kept your medical coverage until you reached 65.They were more than happy to see guys (and girls) like me go. Our replacements would be a new hires off the street being paid 70% of full salary for the first 5 years w/o any pension plan. They set you up with a 401K as a pension replacement. Point being, IMO its safe to assume that companies would be completely against extending the retirement age beyond 65. They want to get rid of the "old timers" with new kids that they can pay them much less than the folks they are replacing with minimal benefits. |

Younger people are more likely to accept whatever corporate bullcrap and culture is thrown at them too becuase they weren't around to remember a) efficiency and b) they are gullible.I see two things nowadays. One is how stupid and insane processes are to appease managers who are inept but pretend to work. and those inept useless managers want to sucker the workers. The things I remember doing that I would not want to even be a part of today is an incredible list that I have a hard time believing that I put up with that crap that wasn't even related to work. |
