You know what's really weird? At almost every supermarket on Long Island, or at least in Nassau but probably Suffolk too, there is an extreme shortage of those small shopping baskets. Every one gets stolen. Stop 'n Shop and Stewpid Leonards say that as soon as they get a supply of them they're all stolen within a day or too. According to an employee at Stop 'n Shop they use them for clamming. I don't know if it's true or not but it makes sense if you see the crates the clammers have at the piers. It's really a pain to use a whole shopping cart (which also occasionally gets stolen by the homeless) for 2 or 3 items!!

That sort of desk sharing was once called "hoteling," though I haven't heard that term in a while. Of course I can remember when WFH was "telecommuting."

The "hoteling" term is still used. One of the systems that I administer offers a hoteling module.

really, most of the country doesn't understand new york city. completely different in many ways to any other place. to me, the amazing thing is, millions of people crowded on the sunway literally always...and almost 100 % of the time, everyone gets where they're headed to no problems. the vibrancy of our town (and yes, it's always gonna be my town even if i'm currently in florida.) felt like home soon as i got off the peter pan was up there 3 weeks ago. rode subways, buses, trains, was in times square, astoria, bay shore, mastic)

also, practically every person who bitches about the "dangers" of riding mass transit, in ny and around the country don't actually seem to ride mass transit.

It's more likely anywhere from 200 to 300 packages per vehicle. The number of stops is almost always substantially lower, as many stops are multi-package. This is especially true in Manhattan, with apartment building deliveries. Divided among that many packages the $15 is basically irrelevant.

When I was a rookie in 1982 before I got exiled to the 73 in Brownsville I was walking a footpost on 8th Avenue in NSU-3 when a tourist comes over to me and says he's a cop somewhere upstate on vacation in NYC and asks directions to Yankee Stadium. So I tell him to take the "A" or the "CC" to 59th Street and change for the "D" to the stadium. He gives a look and says "I can't take my wife on the subway, it's too dangerous". I tell him "no it's not, but if you want to sit in traffic, pay an absorbitant amount to park, then take an hour just to get out of the lot, go ahead and drive, and anyway you're a cop". He looked at me like I had 2 heads!!

When I worked in the info booth in GCT (1994). I used to get tourists that wanted to go to Harlem and asked is it safe up there (to see the Apollo theater etc). My standard line would be many people have gone to Harlem and lived to tell about it. The odds are well in your favor. You are safer up there than in midtown.
The other side of the token was when I was the MN Ticket agent in 125 (1997), I'd sell about a dozen monthly comm tickets from 125 to GCT. Those who bought them absolutely positively refused to go anywhere near the subway.

The larger step vans don't carry any more packages that the smaller RAM vans, as there's a limit on how many a driver can be expected to deliver, but they offer more room for organizing and sorting packages. Eventually the plan is to phase them all out in favor of the Rivian electrics.

I'm pessimistic about the 2024 Mets. It has not been a good off season for free agent signings. Lots of stars don't want to play here. The press (internet, papers and radio) is brutal. The players and fans freeze their asses off in April and May playing night baseball because the stadiums have no roofs.

The migrant crisis is destroying this city. Why can't Adams write a letter to the same places as deBlasio did now affirm8ng that NYC is no longer a sanctuary city? Obviously he won't.

The budget cuts will affect city services. Fewer cops will be hired while others will retire or move away and work for other departments. Unsolved quality of life issues will skyrocket. People will continue to park their cars at fire hydrants overnight with no consequences. More speed cameras will be put up on main roads while residential streets will still have speeders with no consequences.

I can go on. I am completely disgusted with NYC. I can see it going way downhill due to the budget implications from this migrant situation.

I don't like speed bumps.

When a vehicle goes over one too fast, the car will make a lot of noise disturbing the neighbors.....that's if the car doesn't go out of control colliding with parked cars on the block.

The only reason for no speed cameras on narrow residential streets is because the city feels they won't get enough hits. Speeding motorists need to be fined for excessive speed on residential streets because of public safety. Children and seniors live there 24/7.

Exactly on all counts. They don’t install those things where they want people to go slow, they install them where they know they will go fast. This explains the speed camera on North Conduit Avenue between 130th and Lefferts.

When I’m done getting past that one, I slam on the gas.*
