Re: Very Pessimistic About 2024

My employer requires people to come in three days a week but has nevertheless massively cut its floor space.
How did they do this? By dramatically increasing density:
- No offices.
- Not even dedicated desks. Every day when you come in you pick an empty desk in the field of 6-desk cubicles.

That sort of desk sharing was once called "hoteling," though I haven't heard that term in a while. Of course I can remember when WFH was "telecommuting."

My view is that while hybrid work is less economically destructive than full-time WFH it can still wreak havoc in some places, especially NYC with its eggs in one basket economy.
