I listed for-profit healthcare for reasons that will be horrifyingly apparent in about three weeks or so. Our society is about to learn, brutally, why our healthcare delivery system is so dangerous. The short version is:1. It's designed to prioritize money over human life. 2. A person's social status (wealth, race, prominence, sexual orientation, gender identity) decisively determines the level of care they receive, and how much care they receive. 3. The system actively discourages its use. We're gonna learn real soon. (I am aware that I myself have little or no social "value" in the scheme of things. As a gay, average-income, mixed-race man over 50, my coronavirus survival probability where patients > available medical resources, is close to zero.) |
