I believe I said a half mile at each end, not a quarter mile. The B15 should connect with the Woodhaven routes. It can and should be done. It's not impossible. It's ridiculous that it doesn't. |

It's a half mile from the Q24 to the Q112. The Q8 is right in the middle, so it's about a quarter mile of walking for someone whose origin and destination are directly on 101st Avenue. As for the B15 (which I'm willing to bet will be an extended B35 in the redesign), it doesn't necessarily have to stop at Woodhaven if you have proper connections in both directions. If you have a Woodhaven local route travel to JFK (or at least the Lefferts AirTrain station) and 1-2 routes traveling from the Ozone Park area towards ENY/Brownsville, the Linden Blvd route can stay on the underpass. |

What about the 500 feet you may have to walk to the bus stop once you get to Liberty or Atlantic Avenue after more bus stops are removed? That’s in addition to the quarter mile walk. Also the Q112 doesn’t go west of Cross Bay Blvd. They will never add all those extra routes or it to make sense for the Q15 to stay on the underpass. |

If you reroute the Q8 to replace the B84 instead of using Fountain to get to the Gateway Mall, then are you proposing to have it run via New Lots to Ashford to serve the subway there? That, plus the routing through Ashford itself, would add noticeable running time to the trip to Gateway, particular for riders from Queens. I'm not sure that's worth doing just to make one bus route superfluous. |

Doesn't seem like they removed too many stops on Atlantic. Liberty seems like they removed a few (and the Q112 doesn't go west of Cross Bay, but the (A) train does)As for the B15, if you reroute the B14 to Cross Bay & Liberty/Rockaway, and extend the Q11 short-turns to JFK (either via Aqueduct or via Conduit) you have connections in both directions. |

Most Q8 riders in Brooklyn are intra-Brooklyn riders. I'd also restructure the B13 to run a little more directly (and have a separate route do the full loop by the Pink Houses) |

My guess is they thought it would catch on with Queens riders, and instead it caught on with Brooklyn riders as a more direct alternative to the B13. |

Posted by dkupf on Fri Dec 17 01:30:25 2021, in response to Bronx Bus Network Redesign Final Plan Addendum, posted by BusRider on Wed Nov 17 09:59:12 2021. The BxBNR Final Plan Addendum was approved unanimously by the MTA Board on December 15.I still think that the Bx41-SBS should have been extended to LaGuardia Airport as part of the BxBNR. To claim that it should be part of the Queens Redesign is ludicrous. Based on this logic, the cutback of the M100 should be done as part of the Manhattan Redesign. As part of the effort to divert the Bx6-SBS to Soundview in late 2022, I wished for the Bx46 to extend via Prospect Ave and the current Bx6-Local to River Ave & 161 St. My rationale is to encourage use of the Bx46 as an additional option for southern Bronx riders and Hunts Point market employees and reduce the amount of Bx6-Local short trips to be added. Port Morris is a known transit desert. Unfortunately, nothing will change. As that the Bx15 is being cut back, it would have been logical to extend the route beyond The Hub, as requested by Bronx Community Board 1, via St. Ann's Ave to Bruckner Blvd. The Bx17 could then operate via Bruckner Blvd, instead of St. Ann's Ave, to its current terminus. It's only common sense that the NYCT service planners know that Westchester County is undergoing their own bus network redesign. The results of the County's survey conducted earlier this year were recently released. What if Westchester County decides to no longer serve Boston Road, and, instead, feed their riders within the county to the Subway at Dyre Avenue? It's obvious that the MTA will have to start pressuring Westchester County to preserve the status quo within the Bronx. By the way, Ely Ave in the Bronx is not a tertiary street. It is a two-way street with parking (a narrow two-way street, though). If Bronx Community Board 12 asks that the NYCDOT to make Ely Ave one-way-northbound only, in the name of traffic safety, the Bx29 could be reextended in order to serve the Bay Plaza Shopping Center, Baychester Ave Station, Cardinal Spellman High School, Mundy Lane, and Wakefield. (Southbound Bx29 service would use Edson Ave.) The Bx34 could then be extended from its northern terminus eastward to Wakefield, and the Bx16 streamlined to operate via East 233 St. If no riders would have to pay an additional fare, three-legged transfers would have to ultimately be approved by the MTA Board. The documents presented by the MTA to the public show no evidence that this would be the case. Should there be three-legged transfers connected to the BxBNR, they shouldn't be kept secret. In conclusion, the MTA dismissed the more comprehensive changes that could have made the BxBNR Final Plan a much better plan for all. |

Bx29 is a feeder from City Island to Pelham Bay. No need to send it to Bay Plaza, Baychester Av, Cardinal Spellman etc. The cutback from Bay Plaza now allows it to operate 24/7 as was done in the past when it was served by Bx12. |

But I don't know of any other route that could efficiently serve the Baychester Ave Station while maintaining coverage in other areas. |

How would you get from Bay Plaza to Baychester Ave. station? The N.E. Thruway has barriers specifically to prevent cutting across the roadway from the northbound entrance off Co-op City's Baychester Ave. to the left exit going to the rest of Baychester Ave. |

Unfortunately the only way for get from one side of the N.E. Thruway to the other is either the Bartow Av underpass or the Conner St overpass. It would be difficult for bus service to get to the Baychester station using the Bartow underpass because the cross streets (on the western side of Bartow) are not wide enough for support regular bus service. A bus would have to use the Connor St overpass to Boston Rd, make a left then use Boston Rd to Baychester Av and make a left then go down to the station. |

A combination of the two corridors would increase seat turnover, and therefore be more efficient and productive.Aside from the fact that this is the opposite of true (Shorter routes tend to have higher efficiency numbers because by definition, everyone gets off at the terminal), you could use whatever logic you're attempting to use to justify combining any two random routes that share a common terminal. Why do those particular corridors need to be combined? And would operate all times. Not necessarily. They could always short-turn the overnight Bx29 at PBP...just look at how the Bx24 operates overnight. |

Imagine the current Bx29 route path being extended via Bartow Ave, Edson Ave (SB)/Ely Ave & Givan Ave (NB), Baychester Ave, etc. to Wakefield. The diversion via Cardinal Spellman High School would also serve the Edenwald Houses, another major trip generator on this segment of the route. The amount of people who would use the Bx29 between City Island, Pelham Bay Park Station, Bay Plaza Shopping Center, the Baychester Ave Station, and the Edenwald Houses would justify the operation of 24-hour bus service, something the people of northern Bronx have been requesting for a long time. |

Coordinating bus/subway schedules is fine - on paper. All you need is a train to go BIE or OOS completely or have a sick passenger and that throws the whole thing out of whack. |
