Um No. Bad Guys could hide behind it. Cops wanna see what is around them. All the cop needed to do was to stand between Nilet and the machine, arms folded, and smile for the camera.

*I* am a *LION*, and I have followed this thread from the beginning.
Yes I *know* what we are talking about. And *I* was telling *you* that no cop wants to hide behind a curtain, for it is obvious that a would be robber would find this situation commodious to say the least.

A working officer wants to see every thin in every direction, and if there ever were a reason to prohibit the photography of the innards of an MVM, then the simple expedient for him would be to stand between the photographer and the machine, and to smile for the camera.

Yes, *I* know that Nilet was NOT taking a photo when approached, but the officer did not know that. All he had to do was to turn, face Nilet and smile and wave for the camera. By confronting him as he did, he abandoned his post which was to protect the revenue collector, and left him open for a second vector attack. If the were that easy to distract these officers, the MTA would already be broke.

Have it your way. In light of the sensitive nature of the revenue collection process, I would be fully understanding of why photography of that operation might be limited or not allowed.

How would it be enforced? Why aren't armored vehicle pickups and deliveries at banks prohibited from being photographed? What other "processes" that occur in public anywhere in this country are not allowed to be photographed? Why would you allowed a made up rules about photography to stand in this regard but not allow it to stand in other regards? How would you prevent additional made up photography laws that you choose not to fully understand from being enforced?

FWIW there is no statute on the books prohibiting it.

Also the "inner workings" of these machines is not a state secret. Shows like "How its Made" or "Deconstructed" have at one point or another covered things like vending machines, ATMs and even Slot Machines.

What a lot of people are fed up with is not only that cops and security guards make up laws, but that they are downright nasty about it as well. As if we are supposed to know and obey double secret law no. 105 that exists only in the mind of Officer Testosterone... By lying so much about the law cops and security guards have virtually lost all of their credibility on this issue.

I've never tried photographing an amored truck pickup at a bank, have you?

I am not a lawyer, but I could see the possibility of some other statute or something of that nature existing and being able to apply to photographing the MVM revenue collection, while still maintaining that photography on the subway is generally legal, possibly on the grounds that it is an "unauthorized" or "sensitive" area that the public "cannot access."

I don't think so. But I have photographed them driving around and parked. I've photographed NYCT Revenue Collection trucks outside of subway stations.

But what does that matter if you have or haven't? There's no law that says you can't!

Sure you could see it. You could see anything. But what does that have to do with the fact that it's NOT prohibited in any way?

Actually, you can't see that prohibition existing since photography of anything from a public area is allowed, even if the subject of the photo is in a restricted area. If someone wants something in a restricted area not to be photographed, the onus is on THEM to block the view of such an item.

I can't stress enough that ANYTHING YOU CAN SEE WITH YOUR EYES CAN ALSO BE PHOTOGRAPHED, provided it doesn't violate any other existing laws or rules. So you can't allow people to stand and watch NYCT revenue collection at an MVM but not allow then to photograph it.
